Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic disabling condition, which is often overlooked and hence untreated for as many as 7-10 years or more. Persons with OCD suffer from the urge to perform compulsive actions. But by giving in to these impulses they are in fact perpetuating the disorder. Repetitive cleaning, washing and checking can take hours and can severely interfere with a person’s daily life. Left untreated, the illness worsens and depression develops.

Many suffer in silence. Family members also have to endure OCD sufferer’s rituals, some being roped in to do the washing and cleaning on behalf of the patient. Water consumption is many times higher than the national average. Soap, detergents and toilet paper are used in great abundance. Such a waste of precious resources.

Is there hope for the sufferer, and their families? Is there a spiritual element involved?
In this talk, a psychiatrist with expertise in treating OCD lays bare the condition, demystifies it, and discusses treatment approaches and management strategies. Come, learn and have your questions answered.
