Time: 7:30 to 10:00pm

Bipolar Disorder is a fascinating condition characterised by roller coaster highs and lows in mood. You will discover why this is a condition where psychiatrists could miss the diagnosis through no fault of their own.

You will learn the essential facts about Bipolar Disorder, how to recognise features of this condition, and the causes of this condition. You will also learn about the treatments available, and how a simple salt -like compound, called Lithium Carbonate, can be one of the most powerful and effective drugs in the treatment of this illness. Interestingly, it was discovered by an ex- prisoner of war interned at Changi Prison.

Schizophrenia, the dreaded term which conjures visions of madness and insanity, is one of the most severe, stigmatised and misunderstood forms of mental illness known to mankind. Many consider this to be a result of split personality or demonic possession. All these misconceptions spring from ignorance, unfortunately encouraged by film and media portrayals which depict this as a violent, unstable and unpredictable group of people, to be shunned by society.

In this talk, we hope to explode the myths and mysteries, explore the signs, symptoms, risk factors, and the causes of schizophrenia. Discover how family support is vital yet could worsen the condition.
