The spirit of unbelief is an underlying condition of a deeper issue. It runs deep in the crevices of the human heart scarred by the curse of the earth brought on by sin. The manifestation of unbelief is spiritual blindness where doubts reside. Spiritual blindness is the unconscious conditioning of the mind of the heart; and it covers a wide range of understanding and revelation.
We do not need to go very far to see that Israel, although chosen by God, is historically labeled as, "stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears!" (Acts 7:51). There are too many instances of such incidents to make light of this matter. This matter of blindness and unbelief is nothing new throughout the entire Bible. Even after the post-apostolic era, Paul had to contend with the growing apostasy in the church.
Arthur is not here to expose wrong or false teachings but to identify the possible causes of this issue of blindness. Spiritual blindness is not just for the unsaved but also for the saved. We who have come to Christ is saved, but there is more to spiritual value, "to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Cor. 4: 6.
