Matthew 24 begins with the tour to the newly refurbished grounds of the temple by King Herod. Jesus’ disciples must have been impressed enough to want to show Him the surroundings of the temple. Jesus had another impression; He was 40 years ahead of time with regard to the destruction of the temple (vs. 1-2). It was in AD 70 that General Titus invaded Jerusalem and destroyed the temple. God is always futuristic more than anyone could be. The reason being He loved us enough to want to prepare His Church as His Bride at His Coming.
His prediction of the temple has stirred the hearts of the disciples to want to know more about the signs and the age of His coming. That is how He stirs the heart of His people, and it must be this way for every generation. Blessed is he whose heart yearns for the consummation of His return.
The question to ask is, “Why is it not emphasized today?” Is it because it is too complicated? Is that what Jesus would want to make it so? The best teacher is Christ Himself and it would be where He started with His disciples first in Matthew 24.
