Parents want to understand and connect well with their teenager and promote a healthy development. But the reality is as your children become teenagers, your apprehension and challenges increase too.

Instead of connecting with your teenagers through respect, understanding and limits, many parents fall into the parental escalation trap. Ephesian 6:4 (NLT) says, “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them…”

What should parents do differently then?

Research has shown that some risk taking by teenagers is normal and transient. However, to many parents, it can be very worrying and naturally parents want to control and have a say in their teenager’s behaviour.

Common safe control measures include monitoring teenager’s behaviour closely, using threats and meting out discipline when necessary to prevent serious or long-term risk-taking behaviour.

The purpose of this talk is to teach and encourage parents to build relationships and connect with their teenager first. Through this, their teenager can grow, overcome their problems and increase in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.

Francis will guide parents how to develop their own approach to dealing with your teenager’s perception of risk and to averting risk-taking activities.

This talk is also suitable for those working with youths or for guardians of teenager.
