Hebrews 5:14 (NKJV) “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
This verse in Hebrews highlights the importance of training our senses for spiritual discernment. In the past months, we have explored how God speaks through our sense of sight and hearing. In this next session, we shall explore the rest of the sense organs; taste, smell (fragrance) and touch.
Yes, the sense of taste, smell and touch are not only for contact with the physical world, but they can help us discern God speaking to us too, either literally or symbolically. God can speak to us through a combination of two or more of our five sense organs. Being aware of these other three senses can enrich our interactions with God as well as heightened our discernment. They are also pathways for spiritual information, cultivating discernment and responding with wisdom.
In this session, we shall explore the 3 dimensions of each of these senses; the external, internal and mystical sensing, and with the hope to encourage intentional sensitivity to how God may speak through our everyday sensory experiences.
